What Is Ashadhi Ekadashi?
On Ashadhi Ekadashi, lakhs of devotees called “Warkaris” undertake a pilgrimage on foot to Pandharpur for the darshan of Lord Vitthal. This “Wari” is a symbol of devotion, unity, and discipline. The chants of “Dnyanoba-Tukaram,” soulful abhangs, and the rhythm of taal and mridang form the heart of this festival.
How Ashadhi Ekadashi Is Celebrated at Tiny Tots
- Children come dressed as little Warkaris, carrying taal and veena.
- They sing simple abhangs and bhajans, which develops language and a sense of rhythm.
- A “mini Dindi” procession is organised — children walk in a line chanting the name of Vitthal.
- The simple story of Vitthal-Rukmini is shared.
What Children Learn
Through this activity, children get introduced to their culture, devotion, unity, and discipline. Group singing and the Dindi procession help build their confidence and social skills.
